Frankly, I don't understand the rationale. Here is the reply from Nik on this issue (below). This is a little bit tricky but very usefull.

So to combine both, I choosed to save the directory of NX2 32 bits 2.2.8 with Color Efex Pro 3 before updating to 2.3 (which deletes the previous version!) then I restored the 'old' NX2 in 'program files (x86)', thus I have two versions of NX2 (i) the 32 bits 2.2.8 with CEP3 (ii) the 64 bits 2.3 without, both work flawlessly and I choose my version at will. If you skip that part, then enter your current CEP 2 product key, can you proceed? Color Efex Pro 3 (and 4) is a 32 bits app the advantage of NX2 2.3 is in the 64 bits app which is by far faster. I can't see the rationale behind this policy.įrom that page: 'Registered customers who own Color Efex Pro 2 for Capture NX are eligible to purchase upgrades to any of the Color Efex Pro 3.0 editions' Since the page in question is specifically for upgrading to CEP 3, perhaps the field you can't enter is redundant, and not required.

People who purchased CEP 3 are allowed to upgrade to 3.0.0.4 or the CEP 4, but no upgrade from 2 to 3. Nik is no longer offering an upgrade from CEP 2 to CEP 3. I got to that very page you show in your post, but when I tried to enter information in the pull down menu that says, 'Upgrade to,' the field is blank and I can't proceed any further. You must have entered a a version 3 serial number, am I right? Anyway, I'll give Nik a call on Monday and try to get an upgrade price for this. Unfortunately, the download process would not let me 'upgrade' using my old serial number, so I have only a demo product on my computer. Using your instructions, I have been able to download Color Efex 3.0.0.4, which works fine with my installed Capture NX2 2.3. At this time Color Efex Pro 4 is not compatible with Capture NX 2 and that is why we are no longer compatible. At one point, Color Efex Pro 3.0 for Capture NX 2 was available, however once Color Efex Pro 4 was released that older version was discontinued. After I tried it, I called the Nik company and I was told that Nik was no longer offering the version 3 upgrade for Capture NX. Needless to say, I am distinctly unhappy with Nik on this subject. I am (was) an avid fan of Nik Color Efex and it would be very disappointing if I was no longer able to use it. (The version 3 plugin DOES exist and it DOES work with Capture NX 2.3.) I would appreciate any information others might have on this subject. They said that at one point they had been offering the updated version 3 plugin, but they no longer offer it. I exchanged emailed with the folks at Nik software on this subject.

After I updated my Nikon Capture NX to version 2.3, I tried to update my Color Efex 2.0 plugin, but Nik said that it was no longer offering ANYTHING below version 4.0, which does NOT work with Capture 2.3. I am interested in knowing if you actually got the update. Ī progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove Color Efex Pro Complete for Capture NX 2.
